When to Replace My Windows

Many homeowners wonder when is the best time to replace the windows in their home. Here are some indicators that it’s time to get new windows:

1. We all know duct tape fixes almost anything but a crack in the glass of a window is a good indicator that it’s time to replace the window.

   

2. You walk up to the window and put your hand forth to open it but to no avail as one hand will not open this stubborn window. With both hands you exert major pressure to get the window to open so you can enjoy the fresh breeze. Same scenario when you go to close the window, two firmly placed hands, to apply such force that the window finally gives way and closes. Not opening and closing easily is a definite sign that this is a good time to replace your windows.

   

3. You’re enjoying a lovely fall/winter evening and decide to sit next to the window to watch as the fluffy snowflakes fall from the darkening sky. You notice as you’re sitting there that the temperature is dropping and so you grab a blanket in order to continue enjoying the serene atmosphere of falling snow. Drafts or air leaks indicate that there has been seal failure or perhaps the windows have past their peak age and have begun to decline in efficiency. This is a good time to get new windows.

   

4. A nice walk to the mailbox in anticipation of good news but instead you open your utility bill and pass out right there on the street. While your neighbors attempt to revive you, you mutter in a whispered voice, My utility bill! My utility bill! Seeing a surge in the cost of the energy you use in your home?? This is a good reminder that replacing older, non-efficient windows will help keep those utility bills in check.

   

5. As you plop down on your most comfortable couch, which is your favorite spot to binge watch Netflix, you notice that the color of your couch, once so vibrant, is now a faded memory of the original color. Older windows that lack any UV protection, let harmful UV rays into your home and can fade your furniture. This is a good time to replace your windows.
